Collab Crafters Showcase
A collection of what the children have built, designed and coded together during the Collab Crafters Saturday club.
What a street of windows! Inspired by Fox Talbot's famous 1835 photograph of a window at Lacock Abbey, the Collab Crafters learned how to set a window back, frame it and dress it. Seeing them all glowing in the dark looks like a real little town at night. Every builder tried something different, and lots of them used depth, frames and lighting, the three big ideas from today. Brilliant work, Collab Crafters!
1The Purple Glow Shop
This one looks like a shop you'd want to step into! The purple glass shines like a magic display. The row of hanging lanterns under the dark roof is a very clever touch, and the chunky steps make the front look inviting.
2The Cosy Pink Window Seat
Who wouldn't want to curl up here? Putting a bed inside the window turned it into a snug reading nook. The pink frame, hanging lanterns and little glowing path make it one of the cosiest windows on the street.
3The Sculk and Sunshine Window
What a bold mix! The dark, sparkly frame makes the warm yellow and red glass inside really pop. The pink wall is set back inside the frame, which gives it lovely depth, and the amethyst on top is like a little crown.
4The Deep Pink Frame
This is a fantastic example of setting a window back. The purple glass sits deep inside layers of pink and red bricks, so it looks like a real thick wall. The stepped edges around the top are really skilful.
5The Icy Blue Palace
This window looks like it belongs in an ice palace! The glowing white blocks along the top and the lanterns hanging on chains make it sparkle at night. The dark teal step at the front is a great finishing touch.
6The Twin Windows in Blue
Two little windows sit neatly inside a bright blue frame. Setting the teal brick wall back makes the frame stand out beautifully. The row of glowing torches along the bottom lights it up like a stage.
7The Enchanted Arched Window
What a showstopper! The tall purple glass with its pointed top looks like it belongs in a wizard's tower. The mossy stone frame looks old and magical, and the amethyst on top is perfect. It looks great lit with torches and with hanging lanterns.
8The Bamboo Windows
These are so creative! Bamboo is a clever and unusual choice, and the patterns in the frames look almost woven. The purple glass in one and the green glass and little bench in the other make a lovely matching pair.
9The Peaceful Cottage
The leaves growing up both sides give the window a peaceful aura. The wooden sill and the neat glass panes make it calm. The perfect window to sit and read a good book.
10The Stained Glass Chapel
Beautiful! The red, yellow and blue glass makes a real stained-glass pattern, and the candles on the sill are a very thoughtful touch. The stepped shape at the top gives it that church look. The perfect window to start developing into a bigger build!
11The Round Window
This is very clever building! Using stairs in the corners to turn a square frame into a circle is a proper master builder trick. The two little windows inside look like friendly eyes looking out.
12The Lantern Cafe
This one feels like a village shop or cafe. The dark wooden pillars frame the glass beautifully, and the glowing lanterns under the stone roof make it warm and welcoming. The big glass panes are perfect for a shop window.
13The Porthole
You'd see fish swimming past this one! The prismarine walls and the cross-shaped glass make a brilliant underwater porthole. The glow from inside makes it look like a secret base under the sea.
14The Tower of Lights
Wow, this one lights up the whole night! There are torches down every column and lanterns all along the top, so it looks like a castle tower or lighthouse guiding people home. It would be seen from miles away.
15The Secret Forest Window
This window looks like the entrance to a hidden forest den! The two chunky tree-trunk pillars stand out from the wall like a real frame, which gives it lovely depth. The dark stone roof across the top makes it feel strong and cosy.
What a wonderful morning of windows!
Today the Collab Crafters learned how to set a window back, frame it and dress it. Then they drew mystery cards and designed windows for everything from spooky houses to underwater bases. We finished by lighting up the whole street at night. The creativity and collaboration was wonderful to see. Every window was different, and the children shared ideas and encouraged each other.
