Crowdfunder now open

Wiltshire Youth Esports Academy

Help me launch a coached esports academy for young people in Wiltshire, where gaming becomes teamwork, strategy, confidence and belonging.

Support the Crowdfunder

Campaign closes 6 January 2027

Why esports?

For some young people, traditional sports clubs are where they thrive. For others, gaming is where they feel confident, motivated and connected.

I want to create another route. A young person who might never join a football or rugby team should still be able to train regularly with others, represent a team and work towards competition.

This is not simply a room to play games. It will be a coached, supervised environment where young people practise together, analyse matches, develop strategies and eventually compete. Rocket League will be the starting point, because it is fast, accessible and built around teamwork.

What the academy will focus on

  • Teamwork and communication
  • Strategic thinking and decision-making
  • Resilience and learning from mistakes
  • Confidence and positive social interaction
  • Responsible and balanced use of technology
  • Structured practice, not just playing

Sessions will be supervised and coached, with clear expectations around behaviour, communication and online safety.

What your support pays for

£5,000

Fundraising target

Six

Gaming laptops

The biggest barrier is equipment. My current laptops are designed for educational computing and Minecraft Education, not competitive gaming.

I am aiming to raise £5,000 towards six gaming laptops and the equipment needed to get started. They will let young people train side by side, form squads, practise tactics and take part in organised matches.

They will also support future activities in game design and digital creativity.

Making it accessible

To keep the academy running long term, regular sessions will have a membership fee. I also want to explore subsidised places, so that cost does not automatically exclude a young person who could really benefit.

This builds on something already happening

Jake, founder of Collaborative Computing Education

I'm Jake, a qualified primary teacher and the founder of Collaborative Computing Education. I already run computing lessons, Minecraft Education clubs and creative digital projects across Wiltshire. Esports is the next step: taking something young people already love and building a positive community around it.

Help put the first squad together

Every contribution helps, whether you give £20, sponsor part of a laptop or support the project as a local business.
