Collab Esports Academy

Play Better. Together.

The aim of Collab Esports Academy is simple: help players become better at the games they enjoy while also becoming better teammates, communicators and competitors.

For families, schools and youth organisations.

More than just playing games

Collab Esports Academy is being developed as a structured esports programme for young people.

It takes the enjoyment and competition of esports and adds the structure, coaching and reflection you would expect from an academy. Players will still enjoy playing and competing, but sessions will have purpose.

Coaching, practice, team play, strategy, communication, reflection and competition will all be part of the experience.

The aim is not simply to create better gamers. It is to help young people improve their skills, communicate with others, make decisions, work as part of a team, respond to pressure and learn from both success and failure.

The Collab Esports Academy DNA

Four strands sit at the heart of Collab Esports Academy.

They are not stages or steps. They are woven through every session, every team activity and every competitive experience.

COLLABORATEIMPROVERECOGNISECOMPETE

These four strands form the DNA of Collab Esports Academy. They develop together through practice, teamwork, reflection and competition.

Collaborate

Teamwork · Communication · Trust

Players learn to work with others, communicate clearly and build trust within a team.

Improve

Skills · Confidence · Learning from each other

Players practise, receive feedback, learn from teammates and gradually develop both ability and confidence.

Recognise

Patterns · Strategy · Decision-making · Adaptability

Players learn to recognise what is happening, identify patterns, make decisions and adapt when situations change.

Compete

Resilience · Respect · Learning from wins and losses

Competition matters, but so does how players compete. Players develop resilience, respect and learn to use both wins and losses as opportunities to improve.

Why not just play online?

Playing online has its place, but Collab Esports Academy is designed to offer something different.

Players will be in the same room, working with teammates, talking through decisions, practising together and getting immediate coaching and feedback.

The aim is to create a real social space around gaming, where communication, teamwork, confidence and positive competition can develop face to face rather than everything happening through a headset.

Being together also means players can follow the same session structure, use the same expectations and work through challenges as a team.

The Academy is not trying to replace online gaming. It is creating a structured environment where young people can learn, improve and compete together.

Starting with Rocket League

Rocket League will be the first game used within Collab Esports Academy.

Its combination of individual skill, teamwork, positioning, communication and fast decision-making makes it a strong starting point for the Academy model.

Sessions are expected to include a mixture of:

  • Coaching
  • Skill development
  • Team training
  • Strategy
  • Match play
  • Gameplay review
  • Reflection

Rocket League is only the beginning. As Collab Esports Academy develops, other suitable esports titles may be introduced.

Collab Esports Academy is independently operated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the publishers of the games used within the programme.

What an Academy session might look like

Sessions will combine focused practice, teamwork, match play and opportunities to look back at what happened.

Players might work on a particular skill, practise it with teammates, use it during competitive games and then discuss what worked, what changed and what they could try next.

Every session will draw on the four strands of the Collab Esports Academy DNA: Collaborate, Improve, Recognise and Compete. The session structure is where the four strands come together in practice.

The emphasis is on developing as a player and as a teammate, not simply counting wins.

Compete seriously. Treat people well.

Positive competition will be at the heart of the Academy. Players should want to improve, challenge themselves and compete.

But how they compete matters too. Communication, resilience, responsibility, respect and supporting teammates should matter alongside the final score.

No toxic behaviour.
No putting teammates down.
No rage quitting.
Improve together.
